COMMENT

After the last few editions, a somewhat brief newsletter this month, but some important news nevertheless. And for some new members who will be receiving this for the first time, welcome to the Club and we all hope that you enjoy attending.

A number of members have also asked why this month’s edition has been sent out so late. I simply held back on posting as I wanted to include news arising from the 2022 Annual General Meeting which took place last week, particularly the new Committee structure, rather than send out additional e-mails.

THE 2022 AGM AND YOUR NEW COMMITTEE

The AGM was extremely well-attended with over 50% of the Club’s subscribing membership present. Reports were presented by the Chair, Noel Blows, the Treasurer, Ted Hylton and the Auditor, David Williams, and the main points from their presentations will be included in the AGM minutes. Probably the most newsworthy matter however involved the standing-down from the Chair of Noel Blows after 16 years in post. The meeting approved Martin Evans as his replacement and Martin’s first task was thanking Noel for his notable stewardship of the club and then proposing that Noel be elected as Honourary Life President. With the unanimous approval of those present, Noel accepted this new position.

Niel Clement and Mal Shore stood down as Committee Members and were thanked for their contributions.

The Committee members approved for the next year were Gwion Rhys Davies [Deputy Chair], Ted Hylton [Treasurer], Tony Richards [Secretary] and the four Ordinary Committee Members, Rob Pendry, Steve Rodwell, Bob Cotton and John Allnutt.

David Williams remains in role as Auditor.

THE 2023 SHOW

We can now confirm that this year’s show will take place over the weekend of the 9th and 10th of September and the venue will be the LC near The Marina. It will be great to once again have all of our traders and exhibitors under one roof at a convenient and accessible location.

Booking traders and exhibitors is well underway, updates will be given in this newsletter and Gwion Davies, Show Manager, will keep the website updated.

2023 MODELLING COMPETITION

A reminder, too, that this, one of the other highlights of the Club year, will be judged on the 27th. April. Entry forms for the completion are available either from the Club Room or Simon Durrer. There’s still time if you haven’t started building! Each year, the modelling competition gets bigger and better so don’t hold back and make sure that your submissions are on track. Remember, there are cash prizes…

THE POWER TOOL ROOM

This is situated on the First Floor, adjacent to ‘Pennard Halt’. It has now been fitted out with worktops, the lathe and other tools are in place and the room nearly ready for use. However, access will be limited for the time being as Steve Rodwell [who has responsibility for the facility] is still acquiring some equipment and will soon be drafting rules for use and providing some induction sessions also. Health and safety issues, so often derided, are extremely important in this context and the Club needs to be certain that all those who wish to use the new tools can do so in complete safety.

FINALLY, STOCK SALES

I have been asked by a number of members whether a stock sale might be imminent. No date has yet been sent, but we do plan holding a further sale in the near future. Some interesting items have been brought in including a mint N gauge Blue Pullman pack, a number of good DCC sound-fitted steam locos and diesels and modern bogie freight stock. A further small collection is being acquired shortly, so there will be a lot to choose from. We’ll announce the date for this event shortly.

Best wishes all.

Tony.
