The Club's 0 Gauge Layouts
Rebus Road.
Historically the Club has only had a limited involvement in 0 gauge with Rebus Road built by club members in 2007. This is an end-to-end shunting layout, measuring 8' by 2' (2.5m x .6m) and consisting of goods sidings adjoining two through tracks with fiddle yards at each end. Rebus Road has been exhibited at the West Wales Gauge 0 Guild Annual Show in Carmarthen and at the Fleet Air Arm Museum, RNAS Yeovilton. Space constraints temporarily determined that the layout had to be dismantled whilst a larger development took place. With the additional space now available to the club, the plan is for Rebus Road to be brought back into use.
The Test Track Development.
The Club has laid two large 0 gauge ovals as part of a five gauge (G, 0, 00, N, & Z), eight running track . The 0 gauge ovals measure approximately 24' x 13' and 23 ' x 12' and are enhanced by a passing loop and a long head shunt to the outer circuit. Photographs of some members' stock are shown below.
A number of club members have a strong interest in 0 gauge currently, with others already expressing developing support as a result of the test track project. It is anticipated that the higher profile now given to 0 gauge by the Club with its attendant website publicity and Open Evenings will lead to a greater awareness of and interest in 0 Gauge.
The Swansea Railway Modelling Group is extremely keen to support the development of this gauge in Swansea and also further promote the national 0 gauge association, the Gauge 0 Guild. |
