Swansea Railway Modellers Group (SRMG) has been active in Swansea for more than 9 years and is the result of the merger of 2 other modelling groups. We have large premises at 300 Carmarthen Road where we occupy the whole of the top floor. We meet on Thursday evenings from about 6.45pm to 9.30 pm and in response to an increasing membership we have recently introduced an additional session on Wednesday afternoons commencing at 2.30pm and running on to around 6.00pm.
We already have 00 and On30 gauge layouts, we are rebuilding an N gauge layout and are building a second 00 layout. The acquisition of additional space (Autumn 2012) has enabled us to add a baseboard of about 20 x 12 feet (6 x 3½m) upon which a G scale circuit has already been laid, with 0, 00 & N gauge tracks to follow. We are now also developing a new G Scale layout in the recently completed new section of the building (see Club Projects for details). We also have members with interests in P4 and Z Gauge so we are able to cater for most railway modellers interests.
Over the past year a more pro-active stance was taken by the Committee to develop our group, which has produced good results with an increase in membership and a number of new friends made along the way. Our membership spreads across a wide range of ages, abilities and interests, from those keen to model, with others who wish to run trains and some equally comfortable to chat. All will be welcome.
Swansea Railway Modellers Group is a friendly club with members whose skills vary tremendously but all blend together well. We also support The Friends of The Young Disabled (FOYD) who are the principal occupants of 300 Carmarthen Road. The Club has been developing a Thomas and Friends section to cater for the younger amongst us, either with disability, or whose introduction to model railways is likely to follow this route.
